Polly wachte früh auf. Sie hörte ein tiefes Geräusch, wie Donner. Es waren die Gnus. Sie rufen, während sie laufen. Die Linien der Tiere waren sehr, sehr lang. Das ist die große Wanderung.
Polly flog über die Herde. Sie landete auf dem Rücken eines großen Gnus. Sie ritt darauf wie auf einem Boot. Der Staub machte ihre Brille golden.
Die Tiere fressen der Reihe nach. Zebras fressen das hohe, harte Gras. Gnus fressen die Mitte. Gazellen fressen am Ende das weiche, neue Gras. Niemand streitet.
Im Norden kamen dunkle Wolken. Gnus können Regen von weit weg riechen. Regen bedeutet Gras. Die Herde lief zum Sturm. Polly fand einen Baum und schlief.
