Polly s'est réveillée tôt. Elle a entendu un son grave, comme le tonnerre. C'étaient les gnous. Ils parlent quand ils marchent. Les lignes d'animaux étaient très, très longues. C'est la grande migration.
Polly a volé au-dessus du troupeau. Elle s'est posée sur le dos d'un grand gnou. Elle montait dessus comme sur un bateau. La poussière a rendu ses lunettes dorées.
Les animaux mangent dans l'ordre. Les zèbres mangent l'herbe haute et dure. Les gnous mangent le milieu. Les gazelles mangent l'herbe douce et nouvelle, à la fin. Personne ne se bat.
Des nuages sombres sont arrivés au nord. Les gnous sentent la pluie de très loin. La pluie veut dire de l'herbe. Le troupeau a marché vers l'orage. Polly a trouvé un arbre et a dormi.
