A Village Wired to a Volcano

Later, Polly walked through the village. Steam came from cracks in the road. A big pool glowed orange nearby. This is the same heat that cooked lunch.

बाद में पॉली गाँव से गुज़री। सड़क की दरारों से भाप निकल रही थी। पास ही एक बड़ा कुंड नारंगी चमक रहा था। यह वही गर्मी है जिसने दोपहर का खाना पकाया।

The hot water fills a big public pool. It stays warm all year with no machine. Iron in the water makes it orange.

गर्म पानी एक बड़े सार्वजनिक कुंड को भरता है। वह बिना किसी मशीन के साल भर गर्म रहता है। पानी में लोहा है, इसलिए वह नारंगी दिखता है।

Some homes use this heat for hot water too. No fire is needed. The whole village runs on the volcano below it.

कुछ घर इस गर्मी से भी अपना पानी गर्म करते हैं। यहाँ आग की ज़रूरत नहीं है। पूरा गाँव अपने नीचे के ज्वालामुखी पर चलता है।

Polly sat by the warm pool. She felt the heat. This village found a smart way to use its volcano.

पॉली गर्म कुंड के पास बैठी। उसने गर्माहट महसूस की। इस गाँव ने अपने ज्वालामुखी को काम में लेने का अच्छा तरीक़ा खोज लिया है।
