The Green Sea

Polly flew in from the east at dawn. Below her was a world of leaves. No roads, only green, like a big sea. Polly has a red head, a green body, and small round glasses. This was the Amazon, the biggest rainforest on Earth.

Polly arrivò volando da est all'alba. Sotto di lei c'era un mondo di foglie. Nessuna strada, solo verde, come un grande mare. Polly ha la testa rossa, il corpo verde e piccoli occhiali rotondi. Questa era l'Amazzonia, la foresta pluviale più grande della Terra.

A rainforest has layers. The top layer is the green roof. Most of the forest lives here. The sun comes here first. Flowers and fruit grow here. Most animals never touch the ground.

Una foresta pluviale ha diversi strati. Lo strato più alto è il tetto verde. Qui vive la maggior parte della foresta. Il sole arriva prima qui. Qui crescono fiori e frutti. La maggior parte degli animali non tocca mai il suolo.

One big brown river ran through the green. It was very wide. The Amazon River carries more water than any other river on Earth. The water was slow and full of mud.

Un grande fiume marrone attraversava il verde. Era larghissimo. Il Rio delle Amazzoni trasporta più acqua di qualsiasi altro fiume della Terra. L'acqua era lenta e piena di fango.

In the evening, the forest made mist. The mist became clouds. The forest makes its own rain. Polly sat on a high branch and watched the rain cross the green.

Di sera, la foresta creava foschia. La foschia diventava nuvole. La foresta produce da sola la propria pioggia. Polly si posò su un ramo alto e guardò la pioggia attraversare il verde.
