Agua al fondo

La última parte de los escalones es distinta. Ahora la roca está mojada. Está oscura y fría. Al fondo hay una cueva pequeña.

The last part of the steps is different. The rock is wet now. It is dark and cold. At the bottom there is a small cave.

Dentro de la cueva sale agua dulce de la roca. Polly la prueba. Está fría y es dulce. El mar está justo ahí, pero esta agua no es salada.

Inside the cave, fresh water comes out of the rock. Polly tastes it. It is cold and sweet. The sea is right there, but this water is not salty.

La lluvia cae en la tierra de arriba. Allí arriba la roca es caliza. El agua se hunde dentro. Baja por dentro de la piedra y sale aquí.

Rain falls on the land above. The rock up there is limestone. The water sinks into it. It travels down inside the stone and comes out here.

Ahora Polly entiende los escalones. Los soldados no los hicieron en una noche. Los hicieron monjes, despacio, durante muchos años. Querían esta agua.

Now Polly understands the steps. Soldiers did not make them in one night. Monks made them, slowly, for many years. They wanted this water.
