El pueblo del acantilado

Polly vuela hacia el sur por la costa de Córcega. Entonces la isla se acaba. Delante de ella solo hay mar. Muy lejos ve otra isla.

Polly flies south along the coast of Corsica. Then the island ends. In front of her there is only sea. Far away she can see another island.

Polly se gira y ve un pueblo. El pueblo está sobre un acantilado blanco y alto. Las casas son altas y estrechas. Están justo en el borde. Debajo de ellas el acantilado cae muy lejos hasta el mar.

Polly turns and sees a town. The town stands on a high white cliff. The houses are tall and narrow. They stand right at the edge. Below them the cliff falls a long way down to the sea.

Polly se posa en la vieja muralla y mira hacia abajo. La roca es blanca y seca. Las gaviotas vuelan debajo de ella. Entonces ve algo extraño. Hay una línea estrecha tallada en el acantilado. Dentro de la línea hay escalones.

Polly lands on the old town wall and looks down. The rock is white and dry. Gulls fly below her. Then she sees something strange. There is a narrow line cut into the cliff. Inside the line there are steps.

Los escalones bajan hacia la oscuridad. Polly no ve el final. Polly va a bajar allí.

The steps go down into the dark. Polly cannot see the end of them. Polly will go down there.
