Los Camellos de Piedra

Polly saltaba por el muro, siguiendo el pequeño canal, cuando de repente se detuvo. Había formas escondidas en la roca.

Polly hopped along the wall, following the little channel, when suddenly she stopped. There were shapes hiding in the rock.

Eran camellos, tallados en la pared y tan grandes como los de verdad. A su lado caminaban hombres tallados, los mercaderes de tiempos antiguos. El viento y la lluvia habían desgastado poco a poco sus rostros, pero las fuertes patas de los camellos seguían perfectamente claras.

They were camels, carved into the wall and as large as living ones. Beside them walked carved men, the merchants of long ago. Wind and rain had slowly worn their faces away, but the strong legs of the camels were still perfectly clear.

Polly se paró junto a una pata de camello tallada. Era más grande que todo su cuerpo. Se imaginó las verdaderas caravanas que una vez pasaron por ese mismo lugar, cargadas de especias e incienso de dulce aroma.

Polly stood next to one carved camel foot. It was bigger than her whole body. She imagined the real caravans that once passed this exact spot, loaded with spices and sweet-smelling incense.

El viento soplaba por el cañón, y sonaba casi como pasos lentos. Polly se quedó quieta y escuchó durante un buen rato. Luego siguió el canal de agua, adentrándose más profundo.

The wind moved through the canyon, and it sounded almost like slow footsteps. Polly stood and listened for a long time. Then she followed the water channel deeper in.
