El camino estrecho

Por la mañana, Polly entró saltando al cañón. Adentro, el aire era fresco y azulado por las sombras, aunque afuera el desierto ya ardía de calor.

In the morning, Polly hopped into the canyon. Inside, the air was cool and blue with shadow, although outside the desert was already burning hot.

La gente llama a este cañón el Siq. En algunos tramos mide apenas tres metros de ancho, tan estrecho que cuando Polly estiraba las alas, casi podía tocar las dos paredes al mismo tiempo.

People call this canyon the Siq. In some places it is only three metres wide, so narrow that when Polly stretched out her wings, she could almost touch both walls at the same time.

Miró hacia arriba. Muy por encima de su cabeza, el cielo se había convertido en una simple cinta azul, apretada entre las paredes de roca rojiza.

She looked up. Far above her head, the sky had become nothing more than a thin blue ribbon, squeezed between the dark red walls.

Entonces notó algo extraño. Un pequeño canal estaba tallado en la pared rocosa, y corría a lo largo del cañón como una cinta hecha de piedra. Hace mucho tiempo, había llevado agua. Polly decidió seguirlo para ver adónde conducía.

Then she noticed something strange. A small channel was carved into the rock wall, running along the canyon like a ribbon made of stone. Long ago, it had carried water. Polly decided to follow it and see where it went.
