Der fünfte Tag war sehr heiß und sehr ruhig. Dann wurde der Himmel dunkelgrau. Alle Tiere gingen weg vom Sand. Polly ging mit ihnen.
Dann regnete es. Das Wasser konnte nicht in den flachen Felsen fließen. Also lief es über den Rand der Schlucht. Eine Stunde lang gab es Wasserfälle an den Wänden.
Unten füllte sich der trockene Sand mit braunem Wasser. Deshalb baut hier niemand ein Haus, sagte der Rabe. Dieser Ort ist elf Monate eine Straße und einen Nachmittag ein Fluss.
Am Abend floss das Wasser in den Sand. Die Schlucht roch grün. Der Mais stand aufrechter. In einem alten Obstgarten waren die Pfirsichbäume nass und sauber.
