Polly ruhte sich neben dem kleinen Wasserkanal aus. Sie wollte ihn verstehen. Wer schneidet einen Fluss in eine Wand aus Fels?
Die Nabatäer waren es, das Wüstenvolk, das die verborgene Stadt baute. Sie schnitten diesen Kanal durch die ganze Schlucht, damit Quellwasser bis zu ihren Häusern fließen konnte. In einem Land fast ohne Regen waren sie die Meister des Wassers.
Wo früher das Wasser floss, wächst heute noch Leben. In einer Kurve der Schlucht fand Polly einen grünen Oleanderbusch voller rosa Blüten.
In dieser Nacht schlief sie in einer der kleinen Türen aus Stein. Hoch oben füllte sich das Band aus Himmel mit Sternen. Morgen würde sie das Ende des Risses erreichen.
