Polly est arrivée à l'aube. La terre, en bas, n'avait pas de fin. Les gens l'appellent Siringet. Cela veut dire: la terre qui continue toujours. Polly a une tête rouge, un corps vert et de petites lunettes rondes.
Le Serengeti est plein d'herbe. De vieux volcans ont rendu la terre riche. Ici, l'herbe est une très bonne nourriture. Plus d'un million de gnous marchent en grand cercle chaque année pour la manger.
Il y a de grands rochers gris dans la plaine. On les appelle des kopjes. Polly s'est posée sur l'un d'eux. Le rocher était chaud. En dessous, un lion dormait, comme un gros chat.
Le soir, Polly a vu de longues lignes sombres au loin. Des milliers d'animaux marchaient vers le nord. Polly a dormi dans un arbre. Demain, elle allait les rencontrer.
