The Canyon Under the Sea

In the morning the sea was flat like glass. Polly flew low over the water. Her wings almost touched it.

Am Morgen ist das Meer flach wie Glas. Polly fliegt tief über das Wasser. Ihre Flügel berühren es fast.

Then the water changed color. Near the sand it was green. Then it was dark, dark blue. It looked like a line in the sea.

Dann ändert das Wasser seine Farbe. Nahe dem Sand ist es grün. Dann ist es dunkel, dunkelblau. Es sieht aus wie eine Linie im Meer.

Why? Under the water there is a giant canyon. It is the biggest underwater canyon in Europe. It starts near the beach and goes down very, very deep.

Warum? Unter dem Wasser gibt es einen riesigen Canyon. Es ist der größte Canyon unter Wasser in Europa. Er beginnt nahe dem Strand und geht sehr, sehr tief.

The canyon brings the power of far storms to this beach. That evening Polly saw thin lines of waves on the sea. The giants were on their way.

Der Canyon bringt die Kraft von fernen Stürmen an diesen Strand. An diesem Abend sieht Polly dünne Linien von Wellen im Meer. Die Riesen waren auf dem Weg.
