The River That Circles the Town

The town of Albarracín has its own moat. The river Guadalaviar makes a big loop around the rock. The town sits inside the loop, like a castle inside a ring of water. Today Polly wants a slow day. She goes down to visit the river.

El pueblo de Albarracín tiene su propio foso. El río Guadalaviar hace una gran curva alrededor de la roca. El pueblo está dentro de la curva, como un castillo dentro de un anillo de agua. Hoy Polly quiere un día lento. Baja a visitar el río.

Down in the gorge the air is cool. Trees lean over the water. Blue dragonflies fly above the shallow places. The river works on the rock, slowly, like it has done for ages. The air smells green and fresh. Polly walks the small path along the water.

Abajo, en la garganta, el aire es fresco. Los árboles se inclinan sobre el agua. Las libélulas azules vuelan sobre las partes poco profundas. El río trabaja la roca, despacio, como hace desde hace muchísimo tiempo. El aire huele verde y fresco. Polly camina por el pequeño sendero junto al agua.

All afternoon she does nothing important. She watches little insects walk on the water. She listens to the river's different sounds. High above her, the pink houses look down from the rock, over their wooden balconies.

Durante toda la tarde no hace nada importante. Mira unos insectos pequeños que caminan sobre el agua. Escucha los diferentes sonidos del río. Muy arriba, las casas rosadas miran hacia abajo desde la roca, por encima de sus balcones de madera.

When it gets dark, a fox comes to drink at the other side. Polly and the fox look at each other over the water. Nobody hurries. Then the fox disappears, and Polly flies slowly home. It was a perfect day, and nothing happened at all.

Cuando oscurece, un zorro viene a beber al otro lado. Polly y el zorro se miran por encima del agua. Nadie tiene prisa. Después el zorro desaparece, y Polly vuela despacio a casa. Fue un día perfecto, y no pasó nada de nada.
