Il fiume che circonda la città

La città di Albarracín ha il suo fossato. Il fiume Guadalaviar fa un grande giro attorno alla roccia. La città sta dentro il giro, come un castello dentro un anello d'acqua. Oggi Polly vuole una giornata lenta. Scende a visitare il fiume.

The town of Albarracín has its own moat. The river Guadalaviar makes a big loop around the rock. The town sits inside the loop, like a castle inside a ring of water. Today Polly wants a slow day. She goes down to visit the river.

Giù nella gola l'aria è fresca. Gli alberi si piegano sull'acqua. L'aria profuma di verde e di fresco. Libellule azzurre volano sopra i punti bassi. Il fiume lavora la roccia, piano, come fa da sempre. Polly cammina sul piccolo sentiero lungo l'acqua.

Down in the gorge the air is cool. Trees lean over the water. Blue dragonflies fly above the shallow places. The river works on the rock, slowly, like it has done for ages. The air smells green and fresh. Polly walks the small path along the water.

Per tutto il pomeriggio non fa niente di importante. Guarda piccoli insetti camminare sull'acqua. Ascolta i suoni diversi del fiume. In alto sopra di lei, le case rosa guardano giù dalla roccia, dai loro balconi di legno.

All afternoon she does nothing important. She watches little insects walk on the water. She listens to the river's different sounds. High above her, the pink houses look down from the rock, over their wooden balconies.

Quando si fa buio, una volpe viene a bere dall'altra parte. Polly e la volpe si guardano sopra l'acqua. Nessuno ha fretta. Poi la volpe sparisce, e Polly vola piano verso casa. È stata una giornata perfetta, e non è successo proprio niente.

When it gets dark, a fox comes to drink at the other side. Polly and the fox look at each other over the water. Nobody hurries. Then the fox disappears, and Polly flies slowly home. It was a perfect day, and nothing happened at all.
