The Sky Has Three Rooms

That morning, Polly counted balloons until she lost count. "How many can fly?" she asked. "The sky here is divided into three parts," the pilot said, "and only one hundred and fifty-four flights each day. Everyone has a place, and everyone is safe."

Esa mañana, Polly contó globos hasta perder la cuenta. "¿Cuántos pueden volar?", preguntó. "El cielo aquí está dividido en tres partes", dijo el piloto, "y solo hay ciento cincuenta y cuatro vuelos cada día. Cada uno tiene su lugar, y todos están seguros."

Under every balloon, a chase truck followed on the dusty roads. The pilot spoke on the radio, and the crew below answered. They watched the balloon all the way, like a family watching over a kite.

Debajo de cada globo, un camión lo seguía por los caminos de tierra. El piloto hablaba por la radio, y el equipo de abajo respondía. Vigilaban el globo todo el camino, como una familia que cuida una cometa.

Then came the landing. The truck stopped in a field, with a flat trailer behind it. The pilot gave a breath of fire, waited, and let the balloon sink. Softly, gently, the basket landed right on top of the trailer.

Después llegó el aterrizaje. El camión se detuvo en un campo, con un remolque plano detrás. El piloto dio un soplo de fuego, esperó, y dejó bajar el globo. Suave, muy suave, la cesta aterrizó justo encima del remolque.

The passengers cheered. The crew folded the huge balloon and packed it away. Polly sat on the pilot's shoulder while everyone celebrated in the morning sun.

Los pasajeros aplaudieron. El equipo dobló el globo enorme y lo guardó. Polly se sentó en el hombro del piloto mientras todos celebraban bajo el sol de la mañana.
