The Narrow Way

In the morning, Polly hopped into the canyon. The air was cool and blue with shadow. Outside, the desert was already hot.

Am Morgen hüpfte Polly in die Schlucht. Die Luft war kühl und blau vom Schatten. Draußen war die Wüste schon heiß.

People call this canyon the Siq. In some places it is only three metres wide. When Polly stretched her wings, she could almost touch both walls.

Die Leute nennen diese Schlucht den Siq. An manchen Stellen ist sie nur drei Meter breit. Wenn Polly ihre Flügel ausstreckte, konnte sie fast beide Wände berühren.

She looked up. Far above, the sky was only a thin blue ribbon between the dark red walls.

Sie schaute nach oben. Weit über ihr war der Himmel nur ein dünnes blaues Band zwischen den dunkelroten Wänden.

Then she saw something strange. A small channel was carved into the rock wall, running along the canyon like a stone ribbon. Long ago it carried water. Polly decided to follow it.

Dann sah sie etwas Seltsames. Ein kleiner Kanal war in die Felswand geschnitten und lief an der Schlucht entlang wie ein Band aus Stein. Vor langer Zeit floss hier Wasser. Polly beschloss, ihm zu folgen.
