The Elephant Mountain

Polly flew in at dawn over a calm blue sea. Ahead, a long mountain rose straight out of the water. From this side it looked like a sleeping elephant. People call it Montgó. Polly has a red head, a green body, and small round glasses.

Polly llegó volando al amanecer sobre un mar azul y tranquilo. Delante, una montaña larga salía del agua. Desde este lado parecía un elefante dormido. La gente la llama Montgó. Polly tiene la cabeza roja, el cuerpo verde y unas gafas pequeñas y redondas.

Below the mountain sat a small white town. It had narrow streets, terracotta roofs, and a quiet fishing port. The town is called Xàbia, and it sits between the mountain and the sea.

Debajo de la montaña había un pequeño pueblo blanco. Tenía calles estrechas, tejados de teja y un puerto de pesca tranquilo. El pueblo se llama Xàbia, y está entre la montaña y el mar.

Polly landed on the warm rock high on the ridge. The stone was the colour of honey. She looked down at the whole coast.

Polly se posó en la roca cálida, en lo alto de la sierra. La piedra tenía el color de la miel. Miró hacia toda la costa.

The sun came up over the water. The light turned the mountain and the town gold. Polly decided to stay for seven days.
