The Elephant Mountain

Polly flew in at dawn over a calm blue sea. Ahead, a long mountain rose straight out of the water. From this side it looked like a sleeping elephant. People call it Montgó. Polly has a red head, a green body, and small round glasses.

Polly kam bei Sonnenaufgang über ein ruhiges blaues Meer geflogen. Vor ihr stieg ein langer Berg gerade aus dem Wasser auf. Von dieser Seite sah er aus wie ein schlafender Elefant. Die Leute nennen ihn Montgó. Polly hat einen roten Kopf, einen grünen Körper und eine kleine runde Brille.

Below the mountain sat a small white town. It had narrow streets, terracotta roofs, and a quiet fishing port. The town is called Xàbia, and it sits between the mountain and the sea.

Unter dem Berg lag eine kleine weiße Stadt. Sie hatte enge Straßen, Dächer aus Terrakotta und einen ruhigen Fischerhafen. Die Stadt heißt Xàbia, und sie liegt zwischen dem Berg und dem Meer.

Polly landed on the warm rock high on the ridge. The stone was the colour of honey. She looked down at the whole coast.

Polly landete auf dem warmen Felsen hoch oben auf dem Grat. Der Stein hatte die Farbe von Honig. Sie schaute hinunter auf die ganze Küste.

The sun came up over the water. The light turned the mountain and the town gold. Polly decided to stay for seven days.

Die Sonne ging über dem Wasser auf. Das Licht färbte den Berg und die Stadt golden. Polly beschloss, sieben Tage zu bleiben.
