The Endless Plain

Polly flew in at dawn. The land below had no end. People call it Siringet. It means the land that runs on forever. Polly has a red head, a green body, and small round glasses.

Polly flog bei Sonnenaufgang ein. Das Land unter ihr hatte kein Ende. Die Menschen nennen es Siringet. Das heißt: das Land, das immer weitergeht. Polly hat einen roten Kopf, einen grünen Körper und eine kleine runde Brille.

The Serengeti is full of grass. Old volcanoes made the soil rich. The grass here is very good food. More than a million wildebeest walk in a big circle every year to eat it.

Die Serengeti ist voller Gras. Alte Vulkane haben die Erde fruchtbar gemacht. Das Gras hier ist sehr gutes Futter. Mehr als eine Million Gnus laufen jedes Jahr im großen Kreis, um es zu fressen.

Big grey rocks stand on the plain. They are called kopjes. Polly landed on top of one. The rock was warm. A lion was sleeping below, like a big cat.

Große graue Felsen stehen in der Ebene. Man nennt sie Kopjes. Polly landete oben auf einem. Der Fels war warm. Darunter schlief ein Löwe, wie eine große Katze.

In the evening, Polly saw long dark lines far away. Thousands of animals were walking north. Polly slept in a tree. Tomorrow she would meet them.

Am Abend sah Polly weit weg lange dunkle Linien. Tausende Tiere liefen nach Norden. Polly schlief in einem Baum. Morgen würde sie sie treffen.
