La Última Curva

Polly se despertó temprano. Su corazón latía rápido. El cañón se hizo más oscuro y más estrecho, y las paredes casi se cerraban sobre su cabeza.

Polly woke early. Her heart was beating fast. The canyon became darker and narrower, and the walls almost closed above her head.

Entonces lo vio. En la última curva, una línea fina de luz brillaba entre las paredes oscuras, como una puerta abierta.

Then she saw it. At the final bend, a thin line of light stood between the dark walls, like a door standing open.

Polly pasó la curva, y la pared se abrió. Delante de ella subía un gran templo, tallado en el acantilado, de color rosa y rojo, brillando con la luz de la mañana. Altas columnas subían por la roca. La gente lo llama Al-Khazneh, el Tesoro.

Polly hopped around the bend, and the wall opened. In front of her rose a great temple, carved into the cliff, rose-red and glowing in the morning light. Tall columns reached up the rock. People call it Al-Khazneh, the Treasury.

Nadie construyó este templo con ladrillos. Los trabajadores lo tallaron en el acantilado vivo, desde arriba hasta el suelo. El pequeño canal de agua también terminaba aquí. La había guiado todo el camino. Polly se sentó en la arena y miró hacia arriba durante mucho, mucho tiempo.

No one built this temple with bricks. Workers carved it out of the living cliff, from the top down to the floor. The little water channel ended here too. It had led her all the way. Polly sat down in the sand and looked up for a long, long time.
