La Primera Luz

En su última mañana, Polly voló hasta la punta más lejana del promontorio, el lugar que las cartas llaman Cap de Sant Antoni, donde la tierra por fin deja de discutir con el mar.

On her final morning, Polly flew out to the farthest tip of the headland, the point the charts name Cap de Sant Antoni, where the land finally gives up arguing with the sea.

Un pequeño faro blanco se alzaba plantado en lo alto del acantilado. Lleva generaciones montando su guardia paciente sobre estas aguas, entre tormentas, calmas y todos los matices de tiempo intermedios.

A small white lighthouse stood planted at the top of the cliff. It has kept its patient watch over these waters for generations, through storms, calms and every shade of weather in between.

El sol salió del agua sin ninguna prisa. El mar frente al cabo es una reserva protegida, tranquilo y de una claridad asombrosa, y bajo la superficie los peces y las praderas de plantas marinas siguen con sus vidas sin que nadie las moleste. La primera luz incendió de oro los acantilados un instante, una vez más en su honor.

The sun rose unhurried out of the water. The sea off the cape is a protected reserve, calm and startlingly clear, and beneath the surface fish and meadows of sea plants get on with their lives undisturbed. The first light set the cliffs briefly ablaze in gold, one more time for her benefit.

Polly miró atrás una sola vez y presentó sus respetos al elefante dormido. Después se elevó con el viento cálido de la mañana, y el mar abierto y brillante se desplegó ante ella.

Polly looked back once and paid her respects to the sleeping elephant. Then she rose on the warm morning wind, and the bright open sea unrolled ahead of her.
