The Rock That Left

Polly goes further down. She sees a tall rock in the water. It stands alone. Waves break white around it.

Polly baja un poco más. Ve una roca alta en el agua. Está sola. Las olas rompen blancas a su alrededor.

Long ago that rock was part of the cliff. Then the waves took away the stone under it. Now it stands alone in the sea. It is thin at the bottom.

Hace mucho tiempo esa roca era parte del acantilado. Entonces las olas se llevaron la piedra de debajo. Ahora está sola en el mar. Abajo es delgada.

A gull flies past. This gull does not follow boats. It does not take food from people. It catches its own fish in the sea.

Pasa una gaviota. Esta gaviota no sigue a los barcos. No quita comida a la gente. Caza sus propios peces en el mar.

The gull flies away. Polly looks at the space between the rock and the cliff. That space was stone before.

La gaviota se va. Polly mira el espacio entre la roca y el acantilado. Antes ese espacio era piedra.
