Rose-Red Morning

On the last morning, Polly watched the sun climb over the canyon. Slowly its light slid down the great temple, and the rose-red stone began to glow like fire.

La última mañana, Polly miró el sol subir sobre el cañón. Poco a poco su luz bajó por el gran templo, y la piedra rosada empezó a brillar como el fuego.

High on top of the temple stands a giant stone jar. People once believed a treasure was hidden inside it. But Polly knew the truth. The treasure is the stone itself.

En lo alto del templo hay una jarra gigante de piedra. Antes la gente creía que había un tesoro escondido dentro. Pero Polly sabía la verdad. El tesoro es la piedra misma.

The little pink rosefinch came back and sang from a carved column. Polly touched the warm rose-red wall one last time with her wing.

El pequeño camachuelo rosa volvió y cantó desde una columna tallada. Polly tocó la pared cálida y rosada una última vez con el ala.

Then she flew up, out of the canyon, high over the desert. Below her, the crack became a thin dark line again. A twenty minute walk. Seven wonderful days. Polly carried the colour of the rose-red stone with her, all the way home.

Después voló hacia arriba, fuera del cañón, alto sobre el desierto. Debajo de ella, la grieta se volvió otra vez una línea fina y oscura. Un camino de veinte minutos. Siete días maravillosos. Polly se llevó el color de la piedra rosada con ella, durante todo el camino a casa.
